P & C Music Committee

The P & C Music Committee is run by a group of enthusiastic, music loving parents. Our aims are to support and promote musical activities at Dulwich Hill Public School. We are always open to new members and welcome volunteers at any of the events we are involved in.

Participating in extra curricular groups such as the music groups offered at Dulwich Hill is a wonderful way for children to increase their musical skills, learn more about working together with others, have FUN and cement friendships with their peers. Research shows that participation in music making from an early age has many benefits for brain development and social and academic success at school and later on in life.

Musical Showcase Evening

This annual event is held to showcase the musical ensemble groups (training & concert bands, recorder groups, string group, choirs) and to raise funds for the school via entry donation & food sales. The evening is held in the school hall and differs slightly from the regular community nights, in that performances are restricted to extra-curricular music program participants. including a number of soloists, selected by music teacher Jenny Gibson.

The 2017 evening will be held on Thursday August 31st (Term 3)

Music Mondays

In terms 1 &2 of 2016 we ran an 8 week trial of ‘Music Mondays’, a relaxed, weekly performance event on Monday Mornings to help the students gain confidence in performing either solo or as a small group in an ensemble. These mini-performance events were run from 8.30 – 9.00 am in the music room. There was a weekly sign-up list on the P&C noticeboard next to the canteen. Any student who learns an instrument or sings, was invited to perform.

Congratulations to all who participated – we had singers, trumpeters, pianists, violinists, a drummer and a rock trio consisting of electric & bass guitar and French horn.  Thanks to the Music Subcommittee’s Jane Bernard for organizing.

Look out for the notice of the next round in the newsletter.
